ENERGY
• Use low-energy consuming light bulbs. Shut off lights when you are not in the room. Unplug electric and electronic equipment.

• Walking and riding a bicycle are good for your health. Using Public Transportation is good for you and the environment

• Use rechargeable batteries.

TOXICS

• Reduce the usage of products containing  Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), as there are doubts about its safety. Especially toys, try to find those having the "PVC Free" label.

• Be alert with over-using aerosol spray cans, these contribute to damage to the environment. Try using manual sprinklers for cleaning.

• Use Oils as lubricants, instead of chemical sprays.

• For home painting use water based paints and never those containing lead, which is highly toxic.

• Inspect and maintain the ovens and gas heaters to prevent leaks and promote safety for all.
GARBAGE

• Do not dispose of paint, solvents and car oil by throwing these in the garbage or into the sewer system. Improper disposal contaminates the environment and will end up in ponds and rivers.

• Use paper bags for grocery shopping instead of plastic.

• Avoid one-sided printing when you can use both sides. Save paper.

WATER

• Even small water leaks amount to a lot of wasted water. Inspect faucets, toilet tanks, containers, hoses and connections.

• Wash your car only when needed and have cloths and buckets. Using a hose is another big waste of water.

• At the shower, shut the water off while shampooing and save the water in a bucket until it comes out hot.

DID YOU KNOW........
  • A leak of just 120 drops a minute is the equivalent of 8 gallons a day?
  • Rich countries consume about 50 gallons a day per person, in some others there are only about 5 gallons available.
  • 10 minutes with an open shower are about 30 gallons of water. In places like Africa this would be enough water for many people.
  • You can survive about 1 month without food but only 4 or 5 days without water.
  • A clothes iron uses 1,000 Watts average, per hour. This is the equivalent of having 16 60 Watts electric bulbs on for the same period.
  • Turning electronic equipment off but leaving it in the "Wait Mode" is a waste of 15% of electricity. Better to unplug it or disable the Wait mode.
  • Recycling paper reduces water usage by 86% and also saves energy.
